Film Chain

Production
First of all there is a stage called pre-production, at this stage the production is broken down into separate sections like the locations, props, cast members etc. At this stage the script is written and a detailed schedule is produced. Then there is the main production where all the filming happens, all scenes are filmed and the director shoots as many times he/she feels is appropriate. Then there is post-production this is mainly the editing stage. Firstly the editor makes a rough cut version of the film which sifts and sorts the good cuts from the bad cuts, then a real seamless version is made which is trimmed and snipped into perfectly filmed shots. There are many well known film producers such as James Cameron , Michael Man and john Singleton who produced films such as heat and aliens who work for big filming companies such as sony, fox and warner brothers. the ownership of the studio may have an impact on the films they make because they may decide to make films that attract certain people and have certain target audience. An independent production is a production over which an artist has creative, artistic and editorial control.

Distribution
Film distribution is the process that the movie is seen by an audience, most of the time the film will be distributed by the producer however some production companies have people who have assigned roles to distributing the final product. The traditional way to release is a film is through film reels which is frequently used by a distributing team. A new way to distribute film may be through digital devices such as the internet or perhaps DVDs. Film festivals give a chance for the more underground film producers of getting a shot of standing out and make themselves known to potential buyers. Distributors may have particular times to distribute certain films at certain times because it may affect the amount of viewers they have, for example they wouldn't release a film the same week another major film is being released because it will affect the amount if viewers they have. If a film can't secure a distribution deal that means that no one will be aware of the film and will not be well known meaning they will be losing profit and not gaining.

Marketing
Marketing differentiates from distribution as marketing is mainly about displaying the production to the public instead of other producers etc.

Popular worldwide films such a Spider-Man can be promoted in other countries as it can be translated into their language on their advertisement such as posters and billboards. Another example is the titanic.

Exhibition
Many people can see films nowadays through sources like DVDS, Netflix, cinemas, film festivals and television. A box office is the amount of admissions and financial profit made from the viewing of a film, it is useful when identifying the success if a particular film as the profit is easily accessible and clear to view what films are making the most money. Mainly the production and distributors receive most of the profit received from the box office. Cinemas make most of their money from their refreshments and some from the success of the film. Cinemas attract customers by things like ticket discounts (orange wednesdays) and concession deals (popcorn)
