AS Media Homework.

Production
The production of films is important because it sets the town for the entire film. If film production is poor then it is going to negatively impact on the whole project. Pre-Production is the stage of planning stage. They plan everything they are going to do and the film is broken down into individual scenes so all the visual effects and props can be put in place and identified. Usually there is a detailed schedule produced and so that the necessary elements or people are available for film making and to the film makers , arrangements are made for appropriate times.
Production is when the filming is being carried out. Every scene planned in the Pre Production is filmed in their relevant locations. It is done as many times as the director sees fit until perfection. Great care is often taken to make sure everything is done to high standards and every needed shot is taken. However it is sometimes difficult or impossible to go back or repeat certain events and scenes especially later into production.
Post-Production. This is where everything that has been shot and recorded is compiled into the final film by the editor. First the editor must find the best shots of each scene. Next is to fine cut - make all the scenes flow together seamless and into a story from. Trimming is shortening scenes and cutting out all the unneeded bits of it. As well as editing the scenes everything else must be added on top such as music , graphics and menu. Once this is all done the film is 'Locked' meaning no one can make anymore changes.

Distribution
The distribution if films is very important , one could argue is the most important due to the fact that it is the wide media spread and advertisement of the film. Certain films are expected to do better than others based on the story line , historical content or all star lineup. It is where completed films are brought to life and connected with the audience through different means and methods. Films like The Amazing Spider-Man 2 , Guardians of the Galaxy and The Hobbit where heavily distributed due to how well they were expected to do. It must also be sustained in the market place not just released. Premiers and TV adverts are one of many ways films are distributed to the world.

Marketing
As i said in the distribution paragraph , it is about getting the film to the future audiences. However this is before it actually gets there this is the stage they go through. It is all the trailers you see on youtube and TV , all the posters on billboards and buses. Even sticking a toy affiliated with the movie in a happy meal with the poster on the side of the box is a heavily used and effective way of promoting films. Film makers also have to push themselves and market themselves. This way if the directors and actors receive critical acclaim for the films the led and took part in they are likely to land themselves more jobs and roles and in Hollywood - he most profitable and famous movie industry in the world - that means a lot of money and power.

Exhibition
These are the companies that house the films you see on a day to day basis. These are companies such as Paramount and Sony , picture houses such as Odeon and Vue. A natural entry route into exhibition is to gain employment at a art house or picture house , i.e Vue. Chains employ a large amount of people to deal with the tickets , foods and beverages at the cinemas and since this is where cinemas tend to make a bulk of their profit it is highly regarded.
